Lilacs are one of the easiest shrubs to take care of and they hold up well in most conditions. They feature flagrant, beautiful flowers and are easy to prune. Additionally, they fragrance from the flowers attracts butterflies.

The beautiful flowers come in a variety of colors, including blue, lavender, pink, red, purple, yellow and white. As a result, there is likely any color option needed to match with your landscape decisions. For that reason, you can’t go wrong with a lilac shrub.

Most lilac shrubs grow between 5 to 15 feet tall and wide, depending on the variety. They require full sun and a moist, well-drained soil and should be planted in spring or fall. Overgrown lilacs can be pruned back by as much as one third.
